January 3, 1889: Police Roundup

Last evening between the hours of 7 and and 10 the police effected a round up of the vags and suspicious characters having no visible, means of existence found on the public streets. The round up brought together within the walls of the City Prison twenty-two drunks and vagrants — as worthless a set of vagabonds as ever graced a police dock — all of whom were disposed of to-day by Judge Henshaw according to their respective merrits.
